Military Cross

The Military Cross was instituted in 1914 as an award: For gallantry.

Intended originally for Captains, Lieutenants and Warrant Officers of the Army including the AFC, it was extended during WW1 to include the RAN. By 1931 it was amended to include the rank of Major.
